Nobody's Googling you anymore.

They're asking ChatGPT. Here's what that means for your business — and the one thing to do about it this week.

Morning. Welcome to the first issue of The AI Collective Weekly. One email, every Thursday. Plain English, no hype, and something you can actually use before the coffee's cold. Here's the deal for issue #1.

The shift nobody announced

A customer used to find you one way: they'd type "plumber Regina" into Google and scroll. Simple, and for twenty years, SEO was the whole game.

That's quietly changing. More people — especially anyone under 40 — now open ChatGPT, Google's AI overview, or their phone's assistant and just ask: "Who's a good plumber in Regina that does emergency calls?" And the AI gives them one answer. Not a page of ten links. One recommendation, maybe three.

If your business isn't in that answer, you don't exist for that customer. There's no page two to fight for anymore. There's the answer, or there's silence.

Why this matters more on the Prairies

Here's the good news, and it's real: most local businesses in Saskatchewan haven't figured this out yet. The big national chains are optimizing hard for AI search. Your competitor down the street almost certainly isn't. That's a window — and windows close.

Being the business AI recommends when someone asks isn't luck. It's a handful of specific, boring, do-it-once things: making sure your business facts are consistent everywhere online, having real reviews, and publishing plain answers to the questions customers actually ask. We call it AEO — Answer Engine Optimization. It's the new SEO, and it's very learnable.

Do this now (15 minutes)

Open ChatGPT (or Google's AI) and ask it, as a customer would: "Who are the best [what you do] in [your town]?" Then ask a follow-up: "Tell me more about [your business name]."

Write down what it says. Is your business mentioned at all? Is what it says right — hours, services, location? For most owners, this first look is a gut-check. If you're missing or the details are wrong, that's exactly what we'll help you fix.

From the Prairies

That's it for issue #1. Next Thursday: the five repetitive tasks quietly eating your Mondays, and how to hand most of them to AI. If a business friend would find this useful, forward it — that's how a Prairie thing grows.
